I have a brazilian room mate now and we get along pretty well. One of the things we love talking about is football. A few eye openers for me during our first conversation

i) Its not ‘Brazil” but braziu.
ii) Ronaldo,Ronaldinho and Roberto are actualy pronounced Honaldo,Honaljinio and Hobertho.
iii)12 % of brazil support ‘Corinthians’ which is actually pronounced Chorinchians. Thats about 20 million people. And they are second best. ‘Flamengo’ has about 14% of the population which is about 22 million. This puts it in right perspective; If you consider Mumbai playing Delhi or Punjab in the Ranji Trophy cricket tournament hardly a few thousands would watch and may be half a million people would actually be interested.

I have turned ‘chorinchiano’. We are considering the prospects of getting more mainstream brazlian football on indian tv. I was very impressed with Zee TV taking the initiative to broadcast the NFL on television. Accepted that Mohun Bagan playing East Bengal is not as exciting as Chelsea vs Arsenal but hey its a start. Money should start pouring in soon which will attract better players to the indian football league
